Press Release Summary = The traditional festival of lights in Chinese culture will
makes its US debut in Los Angeles, Oct. 20 through Dec. 31, 2006.

Press Release Body = LOS ANGELES (September 20, 2006) - Fiery dragons, glowing
hearts and luminous peacocks are just some of the sights that await visitors of The
Lantern Festival, the traditional Chinese festival of lights, October 20 through
December 31, 2006 at Hollywood Park.
Beginning at dusk each night visitors will enter the 350,000 square foot outdoor
area through the "Gate of Peace" where hundreds of illuminated structures made out
of lanterns will showcase the magnificence of Chinese art and the mysteries of Asian
culture. Additionally, the festival will include traditional Asian food and live
performances by Chinese Acrobats, The King of Masks and the Chinese Circus.
This modern version of the time-honored Chinese Lantern Festival has been successful
throughout Asia and is currently running in Toronto, Canada.

Traditionally celebrated on the fifteenth day of the first month in the lunar year
in the Chinese calendar, The Lantern Festival is also known as the Little New Year
since it marks the end of the series of celebrations starting from the Chinese New
Year.
In Chinese culture, during the Lantern Festival, children would go out at night
carrying bright lanterns. In ancient times, the lanterns were fairly simple, for
only the emperor and noblemen had large ornate ones; in modern times, lanterns have
been embellished with many complex designs. Lanterns are now often made in shapes of
animals.
The festival once served as a day for love and matchmaking. It was one of the few
nights without a strict curfew. Young people were chaperoned in the streets with the
hope of finding love while matchmakers were busy pairing couples. Often, those
carrying the brightest lanterns were considered symbols of good luck and hope.
The Lantern Festival will take place at Hollywood Park, 1050 S. Prairie Avenue,
Inglewood, CA 90306 from October 20 through December 31, 2006. Tickets are $15.00
